Riding Routes: The Queen Mary Falls

Winding country roads, soaring mountain twisties, never-ending valley views and roaring waterfalls – your ride to Queen Mary Falls will reveal the dramatic delights of the Scenic Rim and more.

Ride Overview:

  • Distance: 215 km
  • Riding time: 3:20 hrs
  • Location: South East Queensland, Northern New South Wales
  • Route: Boonah > Queen Mary Falls > Killarney > Woodenbong > Rathdowney > Boonah
  • Difficulty: Medium, sealed road surface

Fuel up your machine and stomach in Boonah before cruising past picturesque rural properties, up the steep climb on Spring Creek Road and onto the magnificent Queen Mary Falls. The café there has a campground and is a favourite hangout for very friendly parrots and kookaburras.

It’s an easy 200 m return walk to the top of the Queen Mary waterfall, while the walk to the base takes about half an hour and is quite steep in parts.

Feel on top of the world as you ride across the top of the mountain range to Killarney, then loop south into New South Wales and prepare yourself for the thrilling twisties of Mount Lindesay Road and Mount Lindesay Highway. This is a high crash zone, so ride to the conditions.

Wind around the foothills of the majestic Mount Lindesay and circle back into Queensland, amid the peaceful rural scenery.

Spring Creek Road offers superb views of the valley.

Shortcut:

If you feel comfortable on hard-packed gravel roads, turn off Mount Lindesay Road onto White Swamp Road and take a shortcut back to Boonah, keeping an eye out for wandering cattle.

What To Look Out For:

The condition of the road varies greatly and Queen Mary Falls is a popular route with four-wheeled tourists, so take care. It gets a tad fresh on top of the mountain in winter, so layer up!
