Honda Grom - Australia's Favourite Mini-bike?

The new 2021 Honda Grom has just arrived in dealerships, and it's looking better than ever! The Grom has seen a number of changes for 2021, particularly with the engine, chassis and style. Yet don’t be fooled, it still retains the iconic, fun loving characteristics that has made the Grom such a cult classic in the biking community.

Complying with EURO5-specifications, the playful 124cc engine has seen a power increase (with a higher 10:1 compression ratio), screaming out a whopping 9.7Hp @ 7,250 rpm and 10.5 Nm of max torque @ 5,500 RPM. Acceleration is quick and will beat most inattentive drivers off the line.

So where does this bike feel at home? With its small stature, fun oriented engine and playful road presence, inner city riding is where this bike shines. Zipping in and out of dense traffic has never been so easy. A revised exhaust system, new five speed transmission (an extra gear from past years), single-channel ABS (which is now mandatory for Australia) and a serviceable oil filter are all updated additions with the 2021 model.

Styling has seen some significant changes from years past, with an updated LED headlight, more distinctive bodywork, and a revamped colour graphic. These aesthetic changes help make the 2021 Grom look even more contemporary. A complaint for some riders in previous Grom models has been the seat. Honda has listened and for 2021 has fitted a thicker, flatter seat that's more comfortable and a better fit for taller riders. Definitely keen to test this out!

Handling is responsive and stable, thanks to the 31mm inverted front telescopic forks. The front dash has also seen a nice update, now displaying the speedometer, odometer, tachometer, gear position indicator, A&B trip meters, fuel gauge, clock, and indicator for low/high beam. It's a clear display, and fits seamlessly within the front end of the little pocket rocket.
