GSX-S1000
SHARPER, STRONGER, SMARTER
Born of race-winning, track-proven DNA and raised on the street, the honed physique of the new GSX-S1000 morphs it into an even tighter and more striking package that is ready to turn heads and own the streets.
It’s all about commanding performance, confidence-inspiring controllability, rider friendliness, and looks that just can’t be beat.
Absolute Performance
The high-performance 999cm3 four-stroke DOHC liquid-cooled inline-four engine that powers the GSX-S1000 inherits true winning superbike DNA. This street-tuned engine is based on core architecture that benefits from know-how acquired over decades of developing the GSX-R1000 to win countless production race victories, while also incorporating advanced technologies developed for MotoGP racing. Every aspect of the high-performance 999cm3 four-stroke DOHC liquid-cooled inline-four engine underwent thorough review as it was developed to deliver ideal naked sport bike performance under varying riding conditions, whether out for a sporty run or negotiating traffic on city streets. Changes that include a new camshaft profile, new valve springs, a new clutch and a new exhaust system increase power output and achieve an overall better balance of performance, all while satisfying Euro 5 emissions standards. Another development goal was to further enhance the durability of an already highly durable engine design. Attention to detail extends to a change from cut threads to rolled threads for the holes in the upper crankcase cover. Rolled threads are harder and less prone to cracking from wear, so help maximise holding strength for the journal bolts that support the crank.
Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS)
SDMS is designed to offer the rider a choice between three different modes that change output characteristics to match riding conditions or preferences. Mode A (Active) provides the sharpest response as the rider opens the throttle. Settings for torque characteristics are finely tuned to deliver the exciting acceleration that had earned the previous generation GSX-S1000 high acclaim. It is well suited for use when hitting the throttle hard, such as when participating in track day events or enjoying a sporty run on winding roads in good weather. Mode B (Basic) reaches the same level of maximum output but features a softer response and a more linear power delivery curve as the rider opens the throttle. The settings are tuned to make the bike more controllable and instil confidence when accelerating, and make it a good fit for a wide range of rider styles and road conditions in everyday riding. Mode C (Comfort) provides the softest throttle response and more gentle torque characteristics, delivering power in a smoother linear fashion while still reaching the same level of maximum power output. The gentler throttle response and limited torque production as the throttle is opened make it more obedient and controllable when riding on wet or otherwise slippery surfaces, when road conditions are bad, or even when the rider wants to relax and enjoy a ride home after a long outing.
Three-mode traction control system
Suzukis advanced traction control system lets the rider control the throttle with more confidence in diverse conditions, so it makes sport riding more enjoyable and less tiring. The system checks the front and rear wheel speeds, the throttle position sensor, the crank position sensor, and the gear position sensor 250 times a second. It quickly reduces engine output by effecting control over the ignition timing whenever it detects wheelspin. The systems control over engine output feels so smooth and natural, it does not detract from riding pleasure. The rider can set the system to any of three modes or turn it off. The modes differ in terms of sensitivity. Mode one is for sport riding with minimal intervention from the system. Mode three gives maximal traction control for riding in poor conditions. Mode two offers a balance that is ideal for typical road conditions.
SUPERIOR BRAKING
The GSX-S1000 is equipped with top-of-the-line radial-mount Brembo monobloc calipers. The calipers each have four opposed 32mm pistons acting on a 310mm floating-mount disc for strong stopping power. An antilock braking system (ABS) helps the rider stay in directional control even during hard braking. The system is programmed to monitor wheel speed and match stopping power to the available traction. The ABS control unit has a compact, lightweight design that contributes to the bikes nimbleness.
LED LIGHTING
The radical design of the compact new vertically stacked LED headlight assembly with its hexagonal shape headlights topped by a single LED position light creates a clean new face. Its a light, nimble look that emphasises the new GSX-S1000 aggressive stance and eagerness to perform. New front LED indicators in thin bar-shaped housings extend outward from the steering mount and create a look of advanced styling. The thin design of new LED rear indicators combined with the flat rear LED combination light perfectly complement the stylish lines of the svelte tail section and match the bikes unique advanced styling.
MULTI-FUNCTION LCD INSTRUMENTATION
The instrument panel packs all required information onto a compact, full LCD screen using a clean and intuitive layout with information displayed in order of priority. It features a custom display with exclusive graphics and blue back-lighting matched to the GSX-S1000 image. The panel LCD readouts include the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, dual trip meter (A, B), gear position, water temperature, riding range, lap time mode, average fuel consumption, instant fuel consumption, Traction Control mode, SDMS mode, Quick Shift (ON/OFF), fuel gauge, clock, battery voltage, RPM indicator and service reminder. LED indicators surrounding the panel include those for the turn signals, high beam, neutral, malfunction, master warning, ABS, traction control system, low voltage warning, coolant temperature and oil pressure warnings.
A CHASSIS ENGINEERED FOR EXCITEMENT
Every aspect of the chassis reflects engineering focused on delivering great handling and control, whether riding on city streets, negotiating twisty mountain roads, or taking the GSX-S1000 out to participate in a track day event. The chassis features a compact, lightweight package that makes the GSX-S1000 surprisingly agile, predictable and well behaved for a high-performance, large-displacement sports bike. Its twin-spar aluminium frame helps deliver nimble handling and great road holding ability, while its straight main tubes are ideal for achieving high rigidity and low weight. All this connects to a ruggedly braced aluminium-alloy swingarm that further contributes to the road gripping character that lets you ride with confidence.
RAZOR SHARP STYLING
Minimalist cowling with upsweeping sharp lines surrounds stacked hexagonal LED headlights to form the compact face of a radical new design. These sharp lines continue their upward trajectory across the contrasting bulk of a massive fuel tank, heightening the sense of well-sculpted athleticism and muscular strength. Its the aggressive stance of a thoroughbred street fighter that exudes performance potential, while also reflecting an attention to detail focused on delivering a superlative riding experience.
Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S)
The latest generation GSX-S1000 adopts a collection of advanced electronic systems that comprise the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). Included are the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), Suzuki Traction Control, Ride-by-Wire Electronic Throttle, Bi-directional Quick Shift, Suzuki Easy Start, and Low RPM Assist systems. These enable the rider to optimise performance characteristics to best suit riding conditions and varying road surfaces, as well as their level of confidence and experience. By assisting the rider, they help make the bike more controllable, more predictable, and less tiring to operate, whether out for a sporty run or enjoying a ride on city streets. These attributes benefit the rider by instilling greater confidence and allowing them to concentrate on enjoying the riding experience.
