BMW Motorrad 2017 New Model Festival

Some of the most exciting models to be released in 2017 have come from within the walls of the BMW Motorrad factory in Berlin. To celebrate, we're holding a New Model Festival on Saturday April 8th. We will have the whole 2017 model line up in store, plus offering test rides on our demo fleet. Lunch will be provided and it will be a day of fun, and everything BMW.

RSVP on our Facebook event here.

Which new BMW Motorrad model peaks your interest?

Is it the 2017 edition of the super popular S1000R? With a lighter chassis, revised electronics which include lean-angle-sensitive ABS and traction control, along with a bidirectional quickshifter, allowing for clutchless downshifts. Add a titanium Akrapovic exhaust as standard, the 2017 S1000R is a hot comodity in the new line up.

BMW S1000R engine output has increased by 5bhp from 157bhp to 162bhp and a 2kg reduction in weight from 207kg to 205kg. BMW have also made efforts to decrease vibration to the bars and offer their lightweight cast alloy HP wheels as an alternative, too.

How about the adventurous, top of the line BMW R1200GS Rallye? While the R1200 GS boxer engine’s output remains unchanged for 2017, with 125 hp at 7,750 rpm and 125 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm, the power plant sees the installation of a new catalytic convertor and engine management software. This is in addition to a judder damper on the transmission output shaft and revised drum actuator and transmission shafts, which were a 2016 update. The R1200 GS now gets Riding Modes Pro – activated by use of a coded dongle – along with Hill Start Control, ABS Pro and a dynamic brake light.

Suspension on the BMW R1200 GS is also new for 2017, with automatic damping and automatic self-levelling suspension, dubbed BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA Next Generation. This optional item automatically adapts to the situation depending on riding condition and manoeuvres.

Or is it one of the brilliant new additions to the Heritage collection? The RnineT Pure, Racer, Scrambler or maybe the Urban G/S

The BMW R nineT Pure is perfect for everyone who loves the classic roadster design and is looking for a pure motorcycle experience.

The R nineT Racer lets you relive the era of legendary superbikes. Far removed from obsessive retro romanticism, but rather on a customisable bike with innovative technology and in customary BMW Motorrad quality.

Feel the wind, lean into every curve and experience the freedom in every meter you ride – the BMW R nineT Scrambler empowers you to do your own thing. Tough, unconventional, and against established standards, it goes wherever you want. Made for true characters who want their bike to be pure, minimalistic and break all the rules.

Enjoy the confident feel of a boxer with an upright and relaxed riding position, coupled with modern technology. Choose from countless customising options for your own unique ideas. The R nineT Urban G/S makes a clear statement: It pays tribute to the early days of BMW Motorrad's G/S success story.

Maybe the original is what you're after? Motorcycling as a sign of pure freedom: landscape, corners, straights. Every metre counts. This is precisely your path. The R nineT is the perfect companion and knows hardly any limits when it comes to your personal fulfilment – also thanks to its countless customising possibilities.

Apprentice of the Year: Leaston! (QLD/NT)

A huge congratulations goes out to TeamMoto Virginia Motorcycle Technician (now fully qualified), Leaston Farrawell, who has been awarded the QLD/NT region's Motorcycle Apprentice of the Year by the Ulysses Club.

The Ulysses Club Inc (Ulysses Club) as the largest motorcycling organisation within Australia, hosts the National “Motorcycle Apprentice of the Year” (MAOTY) Award as a means of promoting and enhancing the motorcycle trade training environment within Australia. There are generous prizes of $1000 gift vouchers for each of the Zone winners, (TAS/VIC, ACT/NSW, SA/WA and QLD/NT), sponsored by Supercheap Autos.

Leaston has now qualified for the National competition, where if he wins he will be presented with a new Suzuki motorcycle donated by Suzuki Australia along with 12 months insurance cover for the motorbike sponsored by QBE Insurance.

Traditionally, each year a fourth year motorcycle apprentice who, whilst adhering to a set criteria, shows commitment, dedication and a genuine enthusiasm for their chosen profession, is selected as the overall National winner. Selection criteria includes TAFE College performance in both Practical and Theory of Motorcycle mechanics, assessments and interviews with Tafe Lecturers / Teachers, practical work experience and skill levels in apprentice work place including customer relation skills, workshop administration, workshop teamwork, etc, and interviews with employers, interviews with applicants including ability to answer specific questions, and detailed analysis of the above by the National Adjudicator.

Assistant Group Service Manager Alex Kelly said "Leaston has been a valuable asset to the workshop at TeamMoto Virginia since day one of starting his apprenticeship. Completing his qualification and training in September 2016 he is now a qualified tech, able to teach apprentices alongside him. Ensuring the evolution of quality apprentices and technicians continues. We look forward continuing Leaston's growing motorcycle career for many years to come."

Leaston is a valued member of the TeamMoto Virginia team and also a fantastic export of the TeamMoto Motorcycles Apprenticeship Program. We are always searching for motivated and mechanically minded people to join our apprenticeship program. If this sounds like you, or someone you know, you can apply online here.
